Record Audio Online

Record your voice from your microphone, then cut it, level it and save it as MP3, WAV or M4A. The recording is made in your browser and never leaves your device.

How to Record Audio Online

  1. Open the audio editor and choose the Record tool on the left.
  2. Press Start recording. The first time, your browser asks whether this page may use the microphone: choose Allow.
  3. Speak. The timer counts and the level meter moves with your voice; if the meter turns coral, you are too loud or too close. Use Pause and Resume as often as you like.
  4. Press Stop. The recording opens in the editor, ready to cut, shorten pauses or level.
  5. Press the save button at the top right (Save MP3, Save WAV or Save M4A; the format is chosen in the Convert tool).

Questions

Is my recording uploaded?

No. The sound from your microphone goes straight into the editor in your browser and is kept there until you save it to your device. Nothing is sent anywhere, and there is no account.

Why does my browser ask about the microphone?

Browsers never let a page use the microphone without asking. Allow lets the editor hear it while this tab is open; you can take that back at any time from the icon in the address bar. If you chose Block, allow it from the same icon and press Start recording again.

Can I add a recording to a file I already have?

Yes. With a file open, the Record tool shows New file and Add after this one. Choose Add after this one before you start, and the recording goes after the end of your file.

How long can a recording be?

Up to 2 hours on a computer and 30 minutes on a phone, counting the open file when you add after it. The recording stops by itself just before the limit and opens as usual.

There is background noise in my recording. What can I do?

The editor records your voice as it sounds. In a noisy room, open More options in the Record tool and tick Let the browser reduce background noise and echo before you start. Afterwards, the Noise tool takes out steady noise like hiss, hum or a fan, and the Loudness tool levels the result.
