Privacy

Your files are edited on your device and never uploaded. This page explains that, what your browser keeps, and how cookies and ads work here.

Your Files

When you open a file in one of the editors, your browser reads it from your device and does all the work there: cutting, adding subtitles, resizing, saving. The file and the result are never sent to us or to anyone else. We have no server that could receive them.

Photos often carry hidden data in their file, such as where they were taken, the camera and the date. The photo editor reads it on your device to show it to you; it isn't sent anywhere. Photos you save from the editor carry none of it.

What Your Browser Keeps

The editors remember a few settings in your browser's storage (called localStorage) so they're there next time: light or dark, the language, the subtitle style, save format and quality you used last, the languages you chose for automatic subtitles and transcription, and that you agreed to a model download. These settings stay on your device and are never sent anywhere.

The photo editor also keeps the watermark you used last, so it's ready next time: its text and settings and, if you chose one, your logo picture (up to 400 KB; a bigger logo isn't kept). They stay in this browser and are never sent anywhere. To remove the kept logo, press Forget this logo next to it in the photo editor, or clear this site's data in your browser. Choosing another logo also replaces it. Your photos, videos and recordings themselves are never kept.

Your answer to the cookie question is kept in your browser too (by Google's consent message), so you aren't asked again on every page.

So that the editors also work offline, your browser keeps a copy of this site's own pages and files (the editors, fonts and pages you visited) after your first visit. It's the site's files only, never yours, and it's replaced when the site is updated. Clearing this site's data removes it.

To remove all of it, clear this site's data in your browser's settings.

Cookies and Ads

The site is free because it shows ads. The ads come from Google AdSense: every page loads Google's ad code from Google's servers (pagead2.googlesyndication.com), and that code brings Google's consent message, which asks visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland about cookies.

  • Ads are shown only once the consent message has your answer; where it doesn't ask, they can show right away.
  • If you say yes, Google and its partners may use cookies to show ads, to limit how often you see the same one and to count visits and clicks. Ads may be based on your earlier visits to this and other sites.
  • If you say no, Google may still show limited ads. These don't use cookies to personalise ads; Google may still use them to spot fraud.
  • Ads appear on the help pages, the "why free" page and the editor pages, where they sit in a strip under the top bar and never inside the editing area. Wherever they appear, they never touch your files.

Google explains what it does with this information in How Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can turn off personalised ads in Google's ad settings.

To change your answer, use Cookie Settings at the bottom of any page, or clear this site's data in your browser to be asked again.

Models That Download When You Use Them

Three features need a model: "Write subtitles for me" in the video editor and Transcribe in the audio editor (the same speech recognition model, about 85 MB in all, downloaded once for both; one for English, and one of the same size for the other languages and Auto-detect, downloaded only if you choose one) and Background in the photo editor (a model that finds the person in a photo, about 30 MB in all). The first time, the editor says what it will download and how big it is, and nothing comes until you press "Download and start" or "Remove the background". Then your browser downloads the code that runs the model from jsDelivr (cdn.jsdelivr.net) and the model itself from Hugging Face (huggingface.co), and keeps them for next time.

This is a download only: the model comes to your device and does its work there. Your video, your audio, the subtitles, the transcript and your photos are never sent anywhere. Those hosts see an ordinary file request, like any website visit. You can remove the stored model by clearing this site's data in your browser.

What We Don't Do

  • There are no accounts, so we don't hold your name, email address or password.
  • We don't sell anything about you.
  • There are no analytics or visitor counters of our own.
  • The editors never send your files or anything about them anywhere. The only other websites the pages contact are Google, for the ad code, the consent message and the ads, and, only if you ask for it, jsDelivr and Hugging Face for the models described above.

The Host

Like every website, the company that hosts the pages may keep basic technical records, such as the address your request came from and the page you asked for, to keep the site running and safe. These records never include your files.
