How to Make an Instagram Post
- Open your photo in the photo editor. JPG, PNG and WebP work. The Cover tool on the left turns it into a cover.
- Under Where it goes, press Instagram post (1080 × 1080) or Story (1080 × 1920).
- Press a Design, then type your words under Headline and Small text.
- Press one of the Colours sets, or pick your own under More options, where you can also untick Show shapes for a plainer look. Drag the photo on the post to move it, and use Photo zoom to get closer.
- Press the save button at the top right (it says Save JPG, Save PNG or Save WebP, after the file type). The post goes to your downloads named cover-instagram-post (a Story cover-story).
Questions
Why does the Story keep text away from the top and bottom?
Instagram shows your name at the top of a Story and the reply box at the bottom. The dashed line marks the part that stays clear, and the designs keep your words inside it. The line isn't saved.
Can I make a 4:5 portrait post?
The Cover tool makes square posts and 9:16 Stories. For a 4:5 portrait post, use the Crop tool's 4:5 shape on your photo and add words with the Text tool.
JPG or PNG?
JPG is right for photos and makes a smaller file. Choose PNG under More options, Save as, for flat colours and sharp text; Instagram compresses either one when you post it.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The post is made and saved in your browser; nothing leaves your device until you post it yourself.
